HOPPE (UK) donates fire door hardware to homelessness charity

HOPPE (UK) has donated a range of fire door hardware as part of a refurbishment project for a homelessness charity in London.

Caritas Anchor House is a charity that provides accommodation and life skills support, based in the London Borough of Newham. Its facilities were in desperate need of renovation works to provide improved facilities for its 140 residents.

The building has been in use since 1963 and some parts were no longer fit for purpose. CRASH, a construction industry-based charity that helps homelessness and hospice organisations with their construction projects, stepped in to help transform the building.

The project was led by VolkerFitzpatrick, a patron of CRASH. In August, the previous space was demolished and a new dining area and storeroom were created. New windows and doors were installed to increase the light in the space and improve the walkways.

HOPPE (UK) donated a range of fire door hardware including fire door signage, intumescent seals, handles, mortice latches and door stops.

VolkerFitzpatrick and other patrons have also helped to renovate other parts of Caritas Anchor House. In total, the value of support given by CRASH Patron companies and supporters came to £135,602. CRASH also awarded a £20,000 grant bringing the total value to £155,602.

Covid-19 guidelines were followed by everyone involved throughout the project, with only one trade working on site at a time to minimise numbers and ensure social distancing. Construction foot traffic was driven via the rear of the building, to maintain distancing from the building’s residents.
