BS 8607 – Mechanically Operated Push Button Locksets

This standard specifies the requirements and test methods for durability strength and function of mechanically operated push button locksets and their locking plates for use on doors, window doors, and entrance doors in buildings.

BS 8607:2014 + A1:2016 specifies the requirements and test methods for durability strength and function of mechanically operated push button locksets and their locking plates for use on doors, window doors and entrance doors in buildings.

Application Grades

The product shall be designated for 5 grades, according to the following applications:

  • Grade 1: internal applications where users have a high incentive to exercise care and where the expected usage is low. Minimum requirement of 200 effective combinations.
  • Grade 2: internal applications where users have little incentive to exercise care and where the expected usage is high. Minimum requirement of 500 effective combinations.
  • Grade 3: applications where abuse and usage levels are expected to be high, and there is an element of security. Minimum requirement of 500 effective combinations.
  • Grade 4: applications where security, abuse and usage levels are expected to be equivalent to BS 3621 but which can only be achieved with the help of an integral additional locking unit.
  • Grade 5: applications where security, abuse and usage levels are expected to be equivalent to BS 3621.
