This panel must be opened first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Air Gap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Distance between a window sash and frame; usually 4 mm or 12 mm. The size of this gap determines the type of strike plate needed and the mounting method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Astragal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Decorative center section separating the inactive and active sashes in a French Window application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Backset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Distance from the surface of the lock faceplate to the center of the handle hole. This distance establishes where the handle will be mounted to the face of the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corner Drive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Section of operating drive rail used at window corners to continue the gear action around the window. and to add additional security and strength with locking points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cylinder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In window applications, this is the unit that mounts through the sash thickness into the PZ mortise of a lockable window gear. The thumb turn knob and key activate a cam that locks the mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eurogroove<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The groove in which the hardware fittings are installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extension&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A hardware piece that can be incerted with the fittings to extend various components or link additional fittings together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">French Casement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Double window system with multi-point hardware on one sash and strike plates mounted on the opposite sash used to lock both units together. There is no fixed mullion. The handle that operates the locking gear is typically located at the bottom frame member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frame<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Outer casing of a window which houses the sash and mounts directly into the rough opening of a wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Main mechanism of the multipoint locking system that contains the hub for handle operation that transfers the motion of the handle to activate the locking cams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inactive Panel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Secondary functioning sash in a pair of French Windows. This panel can only be opened after the active panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Linkage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A hardware fitting used to link components together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mishandling Device<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A device used to limit the operation of the handle when the window is in the open position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mushroom Cam (S-ES)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Designated by the letters &#8220;S-ES&#8221;; a &#8220;mushroom&#8221; shaped locking point whose function is similar to that of the roller cam, but adds additional security due to the inner locking of the cam and strike plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Over Rebate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The term used to describe the amount of over lap between sash and frame sections. It is measured on the sash section from the face of the hardware fittings to the outside of the over-lap edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Powder Coating<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A painting process in which parts are powder coated by spray method and then baked to cure the finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Profile&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A vinyl extrusion used in window or door manufacturing. The shape and style of each extrusion differs between various vinyl extruders<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PZ<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the abbreviation for &#8220;Profile Zylinder&#8221;. This is the mechanisn used to lock a gear. This locking device is usually keyed on the exterior and has a knob on the interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PZ Distance&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Refers to the distance from the center of the handle hole to the center of the large cylinder hole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Roller Cam&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cylindrical cam locking point that secures behind a strike plate when activated. They are eccentric, which allows for variable pressure adjustments between sash and frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Roller Strike&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This fitting is mounted on the frame section and is the locking point for the Roller Cam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rosette&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A decorative plate used to mount an operating handle to the gear. Rosette also refers to the decorative plate mounted on the surface of a window that frames the Profile Cylinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety Stay&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a hinged fitting mounted on the vertical sides of a Hopper Window, primarily used to restrict the opening to 90 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sash&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The movable section of a window that is mounted inside the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shootbolt&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrow shaped locking point that remains retracted in the hardware fitting until engaged, at which point it extends out and locks into strike plates usually in the head and sill of the window frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spindle&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A metal shaft used to join interior and exterior handles. Spindles are available in different lengths to accommodate various sash thicknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strike Plates&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The fitting that a roller or mushroom cam lock into. Strike plates are profile specific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tilt Lock Bearing&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A hardware item mounted on the frame that operates similar to a strike plate, but allows the sash to tilt. They are profile specific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turn &amp; Tilt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Special hardware which allows the first handle operation to Swing the sash inward for cleaning. The second handle operation allows the window to Tilt at the top for ventilation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TBT&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Special hardware which allows the first handle operation to Tilt at the top for ventilation.
