DIN 18257 and RAL-GZ 607\/6 for security hardware<\/h2>\n

These regulations determine the terminology, dimensions and tightened requirements as well as testing procedures for security hardware corresponding to the increased demands of the user and as a result of many years of police experience.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is security hardware?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The purpose of security hardware is to protect the locking mechanism of entrance door against direct mechanical attack and to prevent the violent turning of the profile cylinder in an effective way. Security hardware can, however, only provide optimum protection when used in conjunction with all individual elements of a burglary-resistant door according to DIN EN 1627.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Depending on your security requirements, you can choose a security set with one of the available security classes (ES0\/SK1, ES0\/SK1, ES1\/SK2, ES2\/SK3, or ES3\/SK4 upon request).<\/p>\n

The table above shows the performance and requirements of the 4 security classes. The drill protection of the exterior backplate of the security hardware and the connecting elements on the exterior backplate are to be secured in such a way as to hinder drilling (surface hardness 60 HRC).<\/p>\n

The connecting elements (screws, spindle) must be made in such a way that the protective effect of the security hardware remains intact after impact tests.<\/p>\n

Security sets according to these standards are to be identified with the name\/logo of the manufacturer, the security class and test number as well as the corresponding test and inspection mark with respective test number. Furthermore, they are to undergo continual internal and external testing.<\/p>\n

European and German standards for security hardware<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Annex A to DIN EN 1906 contains the requirements and test procedures for security hardware (the outline of \u201cburglary resistant\u201d features can be found in point 7 of the classification key of DIN EN 1906, find out more here<\/a>). Tests relating to \u201coff-centred load\u201d, \u201cattack by chisel\u201d and \u201cstrength of the cylinder cover and resistance to drilling\u201d defined in DIN 18257 have been incorporated into the European standard. One addition is the testing of backplate strength. In testing the strength of the fixing elements, laminated wood is placed between the tensile testing machine and the backplates of the security hardware.<\/p>\n

In order to comply with the demand for exchangeability of the hardware, the DIN 18255 residual standard (May 2002 edition) concerning dimensional requirements applies. This has been adapted to locks according to DIN 18251 and profile cylinders according to DIN 18252.<\/p>\n

The German standard for DIN 18257 security hardware has been revised and was published in March 2003 as a residual standard. Here, concentration is on the above-mentioned dimensional requirements, the adaption to DIN EN 1906 as well as the maintenance of the ES security classes. Security hardware should hinder violent turning of the profile cylinder and a direct mechanical attack on the locking mechanism. The ES0 class does not provide sufficient burglary resistance yet there is demand for it in some European countries. Hardware of this category is not recommended by the German police.<\/p>\n

HOPPE handle sets with protective steel plate<\/strong><\/h3>\n

HOPPE handle sets with protective steel plate are not<\/strong> classified as security hardware under DIN 18257. These sets, as opposed to conventional sets, deter drilling in the cylinder area. Sets with a protective steel plate are available without a cylinder cover (ZA) in bronze, brass and wrought iron.<\/p>\n

HOPPE security hardware of the ES0 (SK1) security class offers increased security compared to conventional door hardware. This security hardware is available without a cylinder cover (ZA) in aluminium.<\/p>\n

HOPPE security hardware tested to DIN 18257 ES1 (SK2)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

HOPPE security hardware of the ES1 (SK2) security class is available with or without cylindercover (ZA) in aluminium, stainless steel and brass. ES1 (SK2) security hardware is also available in a version with a short backplate, with or without a cylinder cover, in aluminium and stainless steel. ES1 (SK2) security hardware is recommended as standard by the German police.<\/p>\n

HOPPE security hardware tested to DIN 18257 ES1 (SK2) to be combined with handle half sets with escutcheon<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This HOPPE security hardware of the ES1 (SK2) security class is available only with cylinder (ZA) cover in aluminium, stainless steel and brass. It makes it possible to fit a set on rose with escutcheon on the interior side of the entrance door instead of the usual backplate, thereby enabling a different combination of material and finish on both sides of the door. Please note that certification is valid exclusively for combinations using solely HOPPE products!<\/p>\n

HOPPE security hardware tested to DIN 18257 ES2 (SK3)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

HOPPE security hardware with ES2 (SK3) resistance comes with a cylinder cover (ZA) and is available on request in aluminium, stainless steel and brass. This hardware is specified by German insurance companies if the risk is high (high insurance values). The German police recommend ES2 (SK3) security hardware in cases where extremely high security is needed (e.g. if the building is in a \u201cparticularly high-risk location\u201d).<\/p>\n

HOPPE security hardware tested to DIN 18257 ES3 (SK4) <\/strong><\/h3>\n

HOPPE security hardware of security class ES3 (SK4) is equipped with a cylinder cover (ZA) and a 13 mm-thick, hardened steel plate and is available in aluminium, stainless steel and brass. Due to its extremely burglary-resistant properties, the police recommend ES3 (SK4) security hardware for very high protection requirements, for example, for a house whose location places it at exceptional risk.<\/p>\n
